WiLDCOAST launches its “Don’t Eat Sea Turtle Campaign” and links the consumption of sea turtles to the practice of eating fish during Lent. The campaign features fishermen who make a pilgrimage to Mexico City during the visit of Pope John Paul II to ask the Pope to ask his followers to refrain from eating endangered species. The campaign goes national and is viewed by more than 50 million people in Mexico.  WiLDCOAST works with the Group of 100 to highlight threats to coastal sites in Mexico from the proposed FONATUR Nautical Ladder program that includes feature coverage in the Los Angeles Times. WiLDCOAST is the first NGO to highlight the threats from a network of proposed liquefied natural gas terminals in Baja California and California.
